It is not picky about soil, and is one of two palms from NC that grows in all three subclimates of the island. I saw lots in Fairchild TG! They are beautiful. It grows a LOT better in the tropics, though. The leaves are very long, have a mostly upright habit and the leaflets are unusually wide and leathery. The crownshaft has a unique nearly black coloration and the trunk is ornamentally ringed in white and green. There are several other species of Kentiopsis, but none perform as well as this one in the US.
Often grown too near the coast, the salt air severely damages the leaflets, making it look messy and sad.
